On Friday, April 16, the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences put together a booth at the Science Festival organized by the Black Latinx Asian Science Students association. Students Laura Lapham’22, Daniel Gunther’22, David Luffman ’24, Ariel Russell ’22, Andi Scroggs ‘21, T.J. Cracas ‘22, and Bennett Van Horn ’21, along with faculty members Anjali Fernandes, Erik Klemetti, and Matt Jungers put together displays and demonstrations for the campus community and visitors.

The displays included a number of the students’ favorite minerals, rocks, and fossils. Visitors to the booth examined sediment from different parts of the world under a microscope, learned how to break geodes, and watched as resident volcanologist Erik Klemetti demonstrated how volcanoes like La Soufrière in St. Vincent can generate particularly violent eruptions! It was a wonderful evening of community building and fun was had by all!
