Library Conduct Policies

The library strives to provide an inclusive environment—a place where community members of all backgrounds feel comfortable working, reading, and learning. To ensure this, all library users are expected to interact responsibly with library staff, other users, collections, and facilities.

Please respect others in the library, and refrain from any behavior that disrupts learning. Learning activities include collaboration, consultation, research, and study.

Show/Hide Food, Beverages, & Tobacco Use

Please help us keep the library clean and orderly by following these simple guidelines:

  • Snacks may be eaten. We consider snacks to be chips, pretzels, cookies and similar foods. Pizza, tacos, salads, fruit, and sandwiches are not snack foods.
  • Foods other than snacks must be eaten in the Vending Room or outside the library.
  • Food delivery to the library is prohibited. Library special events must be coordinated through the Assistant to the Director of Libraries, Peggy Rector.
  • Only non-alcoholic beverages are permitted in the library.
  • Please use sturdy, spill-proof beverage containers with covers to minimize damage to library materials and facilities.

In accordance with university policy, the use of any form of tobacco is prohibited in all areas of the library.

Show/Hide Disruptive Behavior

The library prohibits any kind of disruptive behavior on its premises, including the following:

  • Threatening, intimidating, or abusive language or behavior
  • Any form of harassment, including sexual harassment
  • Excessive noise
  • Fighting or other violent behavior
  • Bringing any weapons, toy or real, into the building
  • Overt sexual behavior
  • Failure to leave the library at closing time
  • Using skateboards or skates
  • Bringing bedding into the building
Show/Hide Mobile Phones
  • Please set ring tone to silent or vibrate and be considerate of others.
  • Do not use cell phones in designated Quiet Study Areas.
Show/Hide Criminal Behavior

The library will notify law enforcement authorities concerning criminal behavior in the building. Such behavior includes, but is not limited to:

  • Graffiti and other acts of vandalism
  • Theft of library materials or equipment
  • Assault, including verbal threats
  • Exhibitionism
  • Deliberate damage to library materials or equipment

For more information, please see the Ohio Revised Code and the Granville Village Charter and Code.

Show/Hide Animals

With the exception of special assistance animals, animals are not permitted in the library.

Show/Hide Personal Property

The library does not take responsibility for theft of personal property in the library. It is up to users to safeguard their property.

Show/Hide Unattended Children

Children may not be left unattended in the library. For their own safety, children should be accompanied at all times by a parent or other adult. Parents are entirely responsible for children’s use of library materials, including access to online resources. The library provides complete, non-filtered access to the Internet for learning and research purposes.

If unattended children are found in the building, library staff will take appropriate action, which may include contacting parents, campus security, and/or juvenile authorities.

Show/Hide Paging Library Users

Users will be paged only in the case of an emergency.
