First Annual Dance Ohio 5 Conference at Oberlin

Ohio 5 Conference at Oberlin

Saturday, February 8, 2014
Oberlin College

The conference successfully brought over 60 students and faculty to share work and exchange ideas. Students danced together in workshops offered by faculty, socialized, performed, and engaged in student-led discussions.

This inaugural event brought together dance students and faculty from the Five Colleges of Ohio, a consortium of Denison University, Kenyon College, The College of Wooster, Ohio Wesleyan University, and Oberlin College. The consortium secured funding from the member colleges to support this gathering, with help from director Susan Palmer. Over 60 students and faculty participated in this one-day dance gathering, thanks to the efforts of Oberlin Dance Chair Ann Cooper-Albright. It successfully provided opportunities for students and faculty to share work, exchange ideas, and become acquainted as colleagues. Prior to this event, consortium dance faculty had never met as a group. Students were able to dance together in workshops offered by faculty, socialize, perform for each other, and engage in student-led discussions. The Ohio5 Dance Conference will be hosted in succession by each of the five member colleges with the next to be held at Kenyon College, spring 2015.
