Relationships are at the heart of the Denison experience.

This holds true for our entire community of more than 3,000 students, faculty, and staff.

The Human Resources Team is a group of talented professionals who support and sustain our campus community through initiatives that build a diverse and welcoming workplace. These include initiatives that:

  • attract, support, and retain a talented and diverse faculty and staff community dedicated to the educational mission of the university
  • articulate and celebrate our common values
  • create, develop, and facilitate initiatives that support a positive culture and rewarding workplace.

In service to these initiatives, Human Resources is committed to providing excellence in the areas of benefits and wellness, compensation, employee relations, payroll, recruiting and hiring, performance management, training and development, and strategic planning.

Our Vision

As Denison University human resource professionals, we are committed to: ensuring trust and respect in the workplace; developing best practices in recruitment, retention, and onboarding of our employees; cultivating a learning environment where employees can develop and pursue interests to promote career development; and providing competitive benefits and compensation.

Our Shared Values

Denison employees provide a nurturing environment for students to grow and develop into autonomous thinkers, discerning moral agents and engaged citizens. This work is supported by our commitment to a slate of shared values that guide our interactions as faculty and staff.

Acting on these values, Denison colleagues:

Show/Hide Inspire Trust

We recognize that trust is earned over time and grows through a consistent commitment to be genuine, transparent, and authentic.

Show/Hide Express Gratitude

We value the positive effects, both within ourselves and within the workplace, that stem from vocalizing our thanks and appreciation to one another.

Show/Hide Pursue Growth & Learning

We actively seek opportunities to develop our skills and abilities in an endeavor to be life-long learners.

Show/Hide Care for the Community

We are each members of a greater community and instead of simply benefiting from this membership, we look for ways to contribute to its improvement, sustainability and success.

Show/Hide Invest in Relationships

We believe relationships are at the heart of Denison’s identity and therefore seek to build a workplace that cultivates supportive, encouraging, and enduring relationships.

Show/Hide Are Respectful

Through giving and showing respect, we elevate our interactions with one another and create a work environment built on mutual civility.

Show/Hide Act with Integrity

We encourage one another to follow our moral and ethical convictions, striving to do the right thing in all circumstances.

Show/Hide Embrace Diversity

We are dedicated to fostering an environment where we support and involve each member of our community regardless of their cultural, racial, sexual, religious, or economic status.

Denison recognizes employees for their commitment to these values through the “Thanks for Being Gr8!” program.

Great 8 employees are recognized in the HR newsletter, and their names are entered in a monthly raffle for the chance to win one of five $25 gift cards. Here’s how it works:

  • When you see a colleague who displays or embodies these values through their actions and deeds, please complete a “Being Gr8!” card.
  • Indicate which “Gr8” shared commitment you observe and tell us why
  • Send the card to Human Resources
  • Cards are available to all employees. If you don’t find one in your area, please email hr@denison.edu for a card.
