Earth Week is an opportunity for the Denison community to participate in various events and activities focused on environmental awareness and action. Earth Week celebrates our home planet through education, community engagement, and sustainability programs.

Earth Week 2025 Schedule

All Week

  • Engage in Denison’s ongoing community science endeavor — Big Red Biosurvey, an i-naturalist project aimed at identifying all the species that call Denison’s campus home.

Monday, April 21

  • Bioreserve Service Day — All Day — Sign up for a shift to help remove invasive species from Denison’s Biological Reserve.
  • Spare Station Takeover — The Table at Curtis for lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., The Table at Huffman for Dinner 5 - 9 p.m. — Sample the new Spare Burger
  • Sustainability Dinner & Documentary Film Screening — 5:30 p.m., Huffman Presidents’ Dining Room. Necessity: Climate Justice and the Thin Green Line.

Tuesday, April 22 — Earth Day

  • A-Quad Earth Day Celebration — 11:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. — Check out informational tables from campus and local organizations, as well as, a pop-up farmers market.
  • Sustainability Alumni Career Panel — 4:30 p.m., Burton Morgan Lecture Hall — Learn from our alumni about their career journeys.
    • Dan Emerine ’96 — Dan Emerine is the Legislative Director for the District of Columbia’s Department of Energy and Environment. He has more than two decades of experience in building more sustainable, equitable, and resilient cities.
    • John Moore ’85 — Director of the Sustainable FERC Project and Senior Attorney at Natural Resources Defense Council.
    • Sophie Lee ’17 — Sophie Lee is a Senior Associate of External Communications within the Public Affairs practice at Invenergy, an industry leading clean energy developer.
    • Patrick Lunt ’19 — Senior Environmental Consultant with ERM, a multinational consultancy firm which focuses on sustainability and the environment.
    • Anna Fash ’19 — Project Manager & Team Leader of Environmental Services at BGE Inc, a consulting and civil engineering firm.
  • Sustainability Alumni Networking Reception — 6 p.m., Burton Morgan Faculty Commons. Enjoy drinks and hors d’oeuvres.

Wednesday, April 23

  • Newark Octagon Mound Tour — 5 p.m. Tour the Octagon Mound with local guide, Jeff Gill. Fill out this form if you plan to attend. A free shuttle is available.
  • Harvest Table — Farm Table Dinner (Gilpatrick Lawn) — Student Only Event. Sign up for a chance at a seat starting April 16 via Harvest’s instagram account: denisonhospitality.

Thursday, April 24

  • Adam Met Lecture — 7 p.m., Swasey Chapel — A New Climate for a New Climate
  • Salad Jar Party (BYO salad with different proteins, toppings, and house-made dressings — 11:30 a.m. on A-Quad (rain location will be inside of Slayter).

Friday, April 25

  • Arbor Day — Campus Arboretum Tree Tour & Tree Planting — 3 p.m., Meet at the flagpole.
  • Cool Food Takeover — The Table at Curtis for lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., The Table at Huffman for Dinner 5 - 8 p.m.
  • Denison Homestead Open House — 4:30 - 6 p.m. @ the Denison Homestead

Saturday, April 26

  • Frühlingsfest, a Global Sustainability and Culture Celebration — 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., Sorority Circle. 
    Join us for a fun, family-friendly celebration of international sustainability, global learning, and the lasting impact of Professor Gary Baker’s 35 years of service to the college. There will be music and recognition of many champions, including Professor Emeritus John Cort, Professor Emeritus Sohrab Behdad, and coordinators of Global Studies Seminars. All are welcome to the community celebration with music and food trucks midday on Saturday, April 26!
