Overview of Denison’s Conflict Resolution Process:

  1. Report: Reports come from many sources, including members of the community. Upon receipt of a report that alleges a student has violated University policies, the Office of Community Values & Student Conduct will evaluate the report to determine whether the allegations are viable and how a matter will be resolved.
  2. Outreach: Students are generally contacted to attend an initial meeting with a case manager, who will review the incident report and alleged policy violation, as well as options for resolution.
    1. Informal Resolution: Matters that are resolved informally may result in direct referral to resources, a mediated conversation, restorative justice process, or educational requirements. A student completes resolution and the matter is closed.
    2. Formal Resolution: Situations that involve greater severity, frequency, or community impact are generally resolved via Administrative Resolution or University Conduct Board. Matters may be resolved at the time of the initial meeting with an administrator, or at a later date to allow the University Conduct Board to convene.
  3. Outcome: Following their meeting, the student will receive a letter describing the finding and outcome
  4. Appeal: For matters that have been resolved formally (via Administrative Resolution or University Conduct Board), students can submit an appeal to Student Life, if they wish.

For more detailed information about the conflict resolution process, please refer to the Code of Student Conduct.
