What you’ll study as a music theatre minor
Whether you enjoy being on stage or behind it, you can immerse yourself in courses that address a wide range of topics and techniques. You’ll get to dive into performance and theory, composing and directing, the traditional and the avant-garde.
Performance opportunities
You can be on stage — starting from your first semester on campus — in productions that range from well-known musicals to new works of art. Students can also participate in music ensembles and any of the four theatre productions each year.
Master your craft
Beyond learning how to sing, act, and dance, our core classes examine the history and form of the American musical, offer music theory and theatre-making essentials, and opportunities for electives across a wide range of topics.
Combine music theatre with any major
You can pair the music theatre minor with any major Denison has to offer. Whether you want to focus your studies in music and/or theatre or focus them in an area completely unrelated to the performing arts, you can do it all here.
Why is music theatre better at Denison?
Music Theatre Workshop
In this workshop, students are offered rigorous training in singing, acting, and dancing, culminating in a full-scale musical each semester. Rehearsals typically take place during the afternoon class period so that students can explore other opportunities in the evenings.
Broadway at Denison Series
The Broadway at Denison Series brings working professionals directly to Granville for masterclasses, workshops, and guest lectures. Students will have the opportunity to work with these artists each semester. Recent guests include Tyler Joseph Ellis, Emma Stratton, Shayna Steele, and Paul-Jordan Jansen.
