Journalism students spend time, as part of their concentration requirements, either at an internship or completing research and longform reporting on a subject matter of their choice. Research topics have ranged widely from gaps in foster care to the influence of immigration on soccer in the United States. While not a requirement, some students have opted to write for and edit The Denisonian, the independent weekly campus newspaper, WDUB, or other campus publications and literary journals, and others have explored data journalism and analytics, while others learn the craft of audio storytelling through our annual Three Days of Story: Podcast-a-thon competition.

Journalism internships are as diverse as the fields from which our students come. Whether working on the staffs of local newspapers like The Columbus Dispatch or The Newark Advocate, regional publications like Story Magazine, national publications like Virginia Quarterly Review, or even participating in a summer independent project cohort, our students have plenty of opportunities to fine-tune their storytelling skills through real world experiences.

Check out some of the places our Journalism students have landed editorial, digital, communication, writing, reporting and marketing internships and experiences as well as awards.
