    Full Description: The Department of Psychology presents a Kantor Lecture titled “Bringing the Mind into the Courtroom: Using Science to Challenge Commonsense” by Eugene Borgida, professor of psychology and law at the University of Minnesota. He is a Morse-Alumni Distinguished Professor of Psychology and held the Fesler-Lampert Chair in Urban and Regional Affairs for 2002-2003. In addition, Borgida is an Adjunct Professor of Political Science, and has served as Co-Director of the Center for the Study of Political Psychology, which he co-founded, and Co-Editor of the journal, Political Psychology. From 1992-95 he was Associate Dean and Executive Officer of the College of Liberal Arts, and from 1996-99 he served as chair of the Psychology Department. Borgida's research has been funded by NIMH, NIH, NSF, and The Pew Charitable Trusts. He received the Distinguished Teacher Award from the College of Liberal Arts and the system-wide Morse-Alumni Award for Outstanding Contributions to Undergraduate Education in 1989. With L. Rudman, Borgida won the 1994 Gordon Allport Intergroup Relations Prize, and in 1989, he and colleagues J.L. Sullivan and J. Aldrich won the Heinz Eulau Award for the best paper published in the American Political Science Review. He is a Fellow of the Association of Psychological Science (APS), a Fellow in several divisions of the American Psychological Association (APA), and an elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). He has served on the Board of Directors for the APS and the Social Science Research Council (SSRC). Borgida's research interests include social cognition, attitudes and persuasion, psychology and law, and political psychology.

    Full Description: The Department of Studio Art welcomes curator Tina Kukielski for an artist's talk. Kukielski was co-curator of the 2013 Carnegie International, in addition to serving as curator of the Hillman Photography Initiative. She recently curated the exhibition Cory Arcangel: Masters (November 3, 2012–January 27, 2013), a focused survey of the artist’s works since 2002. She was formerly senior curatorial assistant at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York where she co-organized the museum’s contemporary project series from 2007–2011 with artists such as Sadie Benning, Corin Hewitt, Omer Fast, Taryn Simon, and Sara VanDerBeek. While at the Whitney, she also curated a number of group exhibitions of photography including A Few Frames: Photography and the Contact Sheet (2009), Resistance Is… (2007), and The New City: Sub/urbia in Recent Photography (2005). Her publications include essays in exhibition catalogues for William Eggleston: Democratic Camera, Photography and Video, 1958–2008 (2008), Taryn Simon: An American Index of the Hidden and Unfamiliar (2008), and Gordon Matta-Clark: You Are the Measure (2007), among others. She also is a recent contributor to Mousse and The Exhibitionist.

Her most recent book, "Women in the Church of God in Christ, Making A Sanctified World," chronicles the history of African American women’s religious lives, and civic engagement in the Church of God in Christ, the largest Pentecostal denomination in the United States. Davis is one of the foremost historians of the twentieth century, winner the National Book Award, the Bancroft Prize, and nearly every award given by the historical profession. He is Sterling Professor of History Emeritus at Yale and Director Emeritus of Yale’s Gilder Lehrman Center for the Study of Slavery, Resistance, and Abolition.
