Music faculty Kevin Wines is Ok with "Oklahoma"

"Oklahoma" music director Kevin Wines wanted to infuse the Weathervane Theatre performance of the beloved musical with a little bit of the other state of the union that begins with "O"- Ohio.

Weathervane, the local theatre which attracts talent from as far away as New York for its summer stock performances, is performing "Oklahoma" with an assist by Denison music faculty Kevin Wines.

Wines knows that the audience is very familar with much of the music, which includes the iconic "Oh, What Beautiful Mornin," but he wanted to arrange the music to have a bit more of an Ohio feel to it.

According to the Newark Advocate: "When the musical opens Thursday, audience members will hear the songs they love performed in a more Appalachian style. A small orchestra made up of fiddles, banjos and guitars will give the music a simple, bluegrassy sound.

“I think it will make people around here really (connect) with a show they’ve known for years and see it a bit in a different way,” he said."
