Denison Orchestra Concert
Andy Strietelmeier, conductor
Cora Kuyvenhoven, cello soloist
The Denison University Orchestra will present our Spring Concert at 7:00 on Friday, May 2 in Swasey Chapel. Denison faculty member and ProMusica cellist Cora Kuyvenhoven will join us to perform Haydn’s Cello Concerto in D major, one of the jewels of the repertoire.
Our string sections will perform the Suite for String Orchestra by Frank Bridge, Benjamin Britten’s composition teacher. Although his later, post-World War I works are known for their modern tonal soundscapes, this early suite draws its sound from the English tradition embodied by Elgar and Holst. The Moldau, perhaps the most famous work by Czech composer Bedřich Smetana, rounds out our program.
