Denison Prof, Student Props!
Assistant Professor of Theatre Mark Seamon has been given the second annual DCGA Faculty Member of the Year Award in May 2014. The award, determined by the students of the Denison Campus Governance Association, was created to recognize faculty for their involvement in student life.
The award was created in order to honor faculty for their commitment and service to the development of students as scholars, leaders, and community members. Recipients of the award are to be faculty members who facilitate the growth of students into autonomous thinkers and well-rounded individuals, who embrace community, engage with inequality, and overcome adversity. They may build relationships with students through classroom engagement, service learning, academic advising, personal mentorship, and campus participation and presence.
Dr. Seamon was credited for his close work with students in the classroom and when directing plays for the Denison Theatre Department. In particular, he's known for driving students long distances to see shows!
As a Denison assistant professor, Dr. Seamon directs main stage theater productions and teaches acting, directing, and various topics in Theatre. He's also directed a number of productions for local theatre companies in Columbus and Cincinnati.
