Jennie Rokakis is the Interim Director of the Center for Women and Gender Action. She is an advocate for minoritized students, and strives to create a campus culture where all students feel safe, supported, and can succeed. She utilizes Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, intersectional feminist theory, queer theory, student development theory, and other identity theories to create the policies, programs, and procedures that will help lead to this cultural change and student support.
She has given presentations on supporting queer, trans, and nonbinary students in K-12 schools and colleges, as well as on self-care and activist burnout. She is a member of ACPA, NASPA, AAUW, and NACADA, and was on the programming committee for ACPA-MI’s Equity and Inclusion Summit. Jennie is excited about this chapter of her professional career at Denison University.
Rokakis holds a Master’s in Higher Education/Student Affairs and a Bachelor’s in Women’s and Gender Studies, both from Eastern Michigan University.
