Students can apply for many exciting summer opportunities as early as their first year at Denison. Fellowships are available that support summer courses, workshops, service projects, and research opportunities both in the US and overseas.

The Lisska Center helps students apply for these summer opportunities as part of an integrated plan of academic, extracurricular, and summer activities spanning their four college years. Students should also consider applying for Denison’s fully funded Summer Scholars awards and summer internships. Many application deadlines fall as early as October, so we encourage students to start exploring opportunities as soon as possible. In recent years, Denison students have won many summer fellowships, including:

Projects for Peace

Projects for Peace awards $10,000 to a student or group of students pursuing a project anywhere in the world that contributes to promoting world peace.

DAAD-RISE

DAAD-RISE is a summer research internship in science and engineering in Germany; students work alongside doctoral students in a German science research lab. Note: German language skills not required.

Fulbright U.K. Summer Institute

Fulbright U.K. Summer Institutes are 3-6 week academic, cultural and social programs at some of the country’s top educational institutions.

Humanity in Action

HIA is a 5-week summer program focused on minority rights and democratic values, held in different European cities. Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) funds overseas summer language programs in critical languages, including Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, Urdu, and much more.

Gilman Scholarship

The Gilman Scholarship provides funding for summer study abroad programs for Pell-grant eligible students. It aims to encourage students to study and intern in a diverse array of countries or areas and world regions. The program also encourages students to study languages, especially critical need languages (those deemed important to national security and economic prosperity).

Critical Language Scholarship

The Department of State Critical Language Scholarships funds beginning, intermediate and/or advanced level summer language programs in: Arabic, Azerbaijani, Bangla/Bengali, Chinese, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Punjabi, Russian, Swahili, Turkish, and Urdu at American Overseas Research Centers and affiliated partners.
