Jennifer Garner followed her own smart advice and dressed up as a mailbox for Halloween. The actress shared an adorable video of her costume, and a clip from her Denison University speech explaining why she opted for the unconventional look.

In the video, she wears the familiar blue box with mail sticking out of the slot. She has a postal service baseball cap on her head and does a twirl to show off every inch of her hilarious costume to the tune of "Monster Mash". Jennifer added "Live your truth, people. Happy Halloween. 🎃" to the caption.

Sexy nurse costumes (or sexy Beyond Burger ensembles) are a dime a dozen. A mailbox, now that's a Halloween look you don't see very often. Jennifer knows it, and also shared the tip during her commencement speech at Denison University last May.

In her speech, she offered up some valuable advice for the 2019 graduating class of her alma mater. "When it comes to Halloween costumes, go funny over sexy," she says in the clip. "Why would you dress as a flirty nurse, when you could be a mailbox?" Jennifer knows, she's a 1994 Denison grad, after all.

The students loved her speech, laughing and clapping along throughout. Jennifer's famous followers were also fans of her creative choice. Reese Witherspoon wrote, "Funny over sexy. Every time. For the win!"

Check out her entire speech, starting at 1:05, from the Denison University commencement ceremony.

It seems that her hard work on the speech and her costume was well worth it. "Writing this speech has made me examine my life choices," she explains. "It has made me gain five pounds. I have experienced an unhealthy level of self-loathing."

Her Halloween costume tip wasn't her only suggestion for the graduating class. Jennifer recommended calling friends on their half birthday for a catch-up, and she even offered up some healthy lifestyle recommendations. "Don't smoke and don't vape," Jennifer says. "Now that you're going to be adulting, it's not cute. Nothing looks better in your 50s than sunscreen in your 20s."
