This year’s theme at TEDxDenisonU will be “Creative Destruction.” Creative Destruction, a phrase coined by the economist Joseph Schumpeter, refers in economic terms to the “process of industrial mutation that incessantly revolutionizes the economic structure from within, incessantly destroying the old one, incessantly creating a new one.” We’re taking that theme and broadening it, not only to the field of economics, but also to creative destruction in how we think about ecology, government, and education. We will be exploring paradigm shifts in these fields, especially where they intersect, and to that end we are looking for speakers to present revolutionary ideas that challenge old ways of doing things while providing a new way forward to better meet human needs. Presenters and titles of presentations: Jasmine Passa `15 and Jordan Berger `15 present “Storytelling for Global Empathy” Megan McCormick `15 presents “A Self-Care Revolution” Megan Hancock, Communications/Outreach Coordinator Denison Museum presents “Paint or hand grenade: the creative and destructive power of art.” Author Ann Hagedorn `71 presents “The Corporate Evolution of the Modern Mercenary Trade.” Joan M. Herbers, Ph.D. at The Ohio State University presents: “Collision between worker culture and what professionals want.” String Quartet ETHEL, Denison Artist-in-Residence, presents a concert. Adam Rice `15 presents “Art as a Vision for Self.” Emir Aden Dini presents “The Golden Age of Automation.”
