Behind the Science at The Works welcomes Denison University’s Professor and Chair of Psychology Nestor Matthews and the Bluecoats presenting, “The Brain, The Beat & The Bluecoats! Neuroscience in a World Class Drum Corps.”

In recent summers, Drum Corps International’s World Champion “Bluecoats” drum corps performed for local audiences at Newark High School’s White Stadium. The Bluecoats’ performances feature spectacular and precisely timed visual displays. This talk will summarize recent psychology and neuroscience experiments on the visual-timing skills of the Bluecoats’ percussionists, brass players, and color guard.

Join us in the SciDome for an evening of captivating science and entertainment! On the third Thursday of each month, hear from dynamic speakers about current science topics. Aimed toward adults who have a craving for lifelong learning, these sessions are sure to get your gears turning. Grab a seat, relax, and get an inside view of the science that makes our world.
