The Licking County Foundation and Denison University are hosting the Better Angels Skills Workshop to teach skills for having respectful conversations. The workshop will be facilitated by Bill Doherty, a professor at the University of Minnesota, who has developed a model of grass-roots organizing. Doherty co-founded the Better Angels initiative to “counteract political polarization and restore the fraying social fabric in American society.”
The name of the organization comes from a quote from Abraham Lincoln.
“We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained, it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory…will yet swell the chorus of the Union, when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature.”
The free and public workshop will be Tuesday Aug. 28 at 2:30 p.m. It will be at the downtown Licking County Library in Meeting Room A.
