The Department of Theatre presents “Sense and Sensibility” by Kate Hamill based on the novel by Jane Austen. Jane Austen’s 1811 novel spins a tale of the Dashwood family, whose comfortable life changes dramatically when their father abruptly dies. Kate Hamill’s 2016 play takes its audience on a whirlwind theatrical ride through the novel’s central story – how Elinor and Marianne Dashwood explore matters of the heart in distinctly different ways. Miss Austen, were she alive, would giggle in delight at Ms. Hamill’s adaptation, and its playful perspective on the social rules of Georgian England.

The play takes place at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Oct. 4 through Oct. 6, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 7, and at 8 p.m., Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 11 to Oct. 13.
