The Tuesday Lunch Series welcomes Mark Orten, director of religious and spiritual life, presenting “Religious Beliefs and Practices at Denison.” In the Spring of 2013 the Center for Religious and Spiritual Life at Denison contracted with the Inter-Faith Youth Core in Chicago to administer a comprehensive survey to the entire student body with a 19.02% response rate. This assessment gives us baseline information regarding (1) overall religious identity and engagement among Denison students, (2) perceptions regarding the existing religious/spiritual communities and campus resources for religious/spiritual engagement (including its staff, facilities, programs) and, (3) general sentiments with regard to the importance of religious and spiritual dimensions of students’ experience at Denison (such as engaging questions of morality and ethics, participating in spiritual practices, etc.) as a part of their undergraduate education. Results of this survey and reflections by the Director of the CRSL and Chaplaincy Intern will be presented. Open to emeriti faculty, faculty and staff.
