Costs & Insurance
Each semester your student account is charged for the Health Center Fee. This non-negotiable fee covers the cost of running Health and Counseling Services at The Wellness Center at Whisler Hall. This fee eliminates any “Office Visit” charge to see the MD, NP, RN, Behavioral Health Counselors or contract dietician or psychiatrist. In other words, you do not get charged to have the appointment and therefore do not need to pay anything at the time of the visit.
However, during some medical office visits, charges may be accrued for laboratory test completed, medications (prescription or OTC), medical supplies and medical procedures, such as repairing lacerations, etc. Additionally, there is a charge for any observation, inpatient stays at our facility. These charges are sent to the Student Accounts office (740-587-6447) and are posted to the student’s individual account.
We recognize that many students have limited financial resources and we make every effort to keep these additional charges to an absolute minimum.
A Confidential Payment plan for any charge a student may incur is always an option for the student and can be accomplished by student request at the time of service.
Optional Denison Student Health Insurance
All full-time students must have insurance coverage. The Denison University Student Insurance Plan (Plan 2) is required for students not covered under their family’s health/hospitalization plan, an individual health plan, or Medicaid. Even if you have coverage under another plan, it is strongly urged that international students and intercollegiate athletics, club sport, intramural, and off-campus study participants carry this coverage. See the Student Insurance Plan Letter
If a student would like to submit documentation of their medical visit and charges to their personal insurance plan, the student must ask for a “Detailed Walkout Statement.” This insurance ready statement for insurance reimbursement is generated at the time of the office visit. A student may request a copy of these statements at Health Services or at the Student Account Office. Denison does not submit statements directly to students’ individual insurance companies.
If, however, the student has elected to enroll in the optional Denison University Student Insurance Plan (Plan 2) offered to students, the Office of Student Accounts will submit these claim forms when the care has been delivered on campus and when directed by the student. Charges that have occurred at another facility will be submitted by the student after filling out the claims form, which is available at the Student Account office. Assistance can be provided in completing these insurance forms for students who carry the optional insurance plan.
