Denison student mentors Big Brothers/Big Sisters
Denison students are making a difference in the lives of 20 Licking County children. They are building relationships, helping with homework and just enjoying each other as part of the Licking County Big Brothers Big Sisters program.
Petrea Coelho, director of the program, said “It gives them stability. They can count of them,” she said. “They get that absolute one-on-one attention. Some of them come from large families, and they just don’t get the one-on-one attention.”
Until this year, Licking County didn’t have a Big Brother Big Sisters organization, Denison student tutored Licking County children through the Par Excellence program. But support for the program from the Denison students has allowed it to open here. All the mentors but one are Denison students.
