Required Online Drug, Alcohol, & Relationship Courses

Dear Member of the Class of 2024:

The faculty and staff of Denison University look forward to welcoming you into the campus community! We share your hopes and ambitions for a great college experience both in and out of the classroom.

We want you to be able to take full advantage of the educational opportunities available to you at Denison, and so we pay attention to things that can interfere with your achievement of your aspirations. On a small campus, the decisions made by individuals can have a profound effect on others—their roommates, teammates, and friends, as well as their faculty, and the staff of the college. As on every college campus, some of those decisions regard the use of alcohol and drugs. We have a strong expectation that students who choose to consume alcohol will do so legally and responsibly, and that students will not engage in illegal drug use.

We believe that students want to make informed decisions about alcohol, drugs, and relationships, and are able to make choices that protect both personal and community health and well-being. In order to be equipped with this information, we have included a suite of interactive online courses created by EVERFI– AlcoholEdu, Prescription Drug Abuse Prevention, and Sexual Assault Prevention for Undergraduates - as a component of our first-year orientation. You are required to complete the first two of these courses prior to the start of August Orientation (August 13th). Information about how you can do this will be sent to you through email in the next day or so. You will complete the Sexual Assault Prevention course when you are on campus during Aug-O.

In the courses, you will examine the interconnected issues of hooking up, substance abuse, sexual violence, and healthy relationships through a variety of interactive, realistic scenarios and guided self-reflection. These courses promote a healthier and safer campus environment for everyone. These courses will also introduce you to our campus policies that relate to these topics. The first two courses take about two hours to complete. You can work at your own pace from any computer. You can leave and return to the course you are working on at any time.

In your Denison email you will receive an email invitation to begin the first two Everfi courses on July 1. Please check your Denison email inbox and spam folders for this email. If you do not receive this email by July 6th, please contact support.everfi.com. You need to complete these two courses by the end of the day on August 12th.

Other Important Information:

  • You will need Internet access and audio capabilities.
  • To avoid technical issues, please use any major web browser (e.g., Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome) released within the previous two years.
  • You may take the course in multiple sittings.
  • The course may include surveys to help personalize your experience and measure participants’ attitudes and behaviors. All survey responses are confidential; the school will only receive information about the participant group as a whole and will never see individual answers.

We hope you find this course valuable, and look forward to seeing you on campus in August!

Sincerely,
Dr. Mark Moller
