Denison Class of 2020 Commencement
The Class of 2020 is unique in Denison’s history. Beginning March 13, 2020, the COVID-19 global pandemic closed the college to in-person classes and events, including Commencement ceremonies.
Denisonians quickly pivoted. Over Spring Break, faculty tested and onboarded new technologies. Students adjusted as well and the entire student body, including the Class of 2020, completed the second half of their Spring 2020 semester classes remotely.
The college also reoriented its Commencement ceremonies. On May 16, 2020, President Weinberg presided over a virtual Conferral of Degrees for the Class of 2020. The event included special remarks by actor, director, and one of America’s most versatile comics, Steve Carell. Carell is a member of the Denison Class of 1984, and a member of Denison’s Burpee’s Seedy Theatrical Company, the longest-running college improvisational troupe in the nation.
An in-person celebration of the Class of 2020 will take place June 10-12, 2022, when the Class of 2020 will celebrate Commencement and participate in a unique second-year Reunion. Information will be updated regularly on the Denison Alumni website.
