Susan Whiting is a C-level executive and Board Director working with multi-national corporate and not-for- profit organizations in the US. She retired as Vice Chair at Nielsen in 2013, after a 35-year career with the company. Susan is known for building Nielsen’s most visible franchise in television measurement during the cable, telecommunications and media industries’ digital transition. She started her career with Nielsen in the management training program and rose through the ranks to senior leadership and Board roles with global responsibilities. Susan has an intimate knowledge of consumer behavior across international markets with three decades of active operational and leadership experience at this top market research company measuring consumer buying behavior and media viewership in 100 countries.
In the past decade, Susan has served as a top advisor and director for consumer, technology and financial services companies, working with executive leadership, external business partners, clients and investors. In addition to her roles with Nielsen, where she led global client relations, communications, marketing, public and government affairs, corporate social responsibility, and diversity initiatives, Susan held Board roles with a number of corporate and not-for-profit entities, including MarkMonitor, acquired by Thomson Reuters in 2012, and Wilmington Trust, acquired by M&T Bank in 2011. She currently serves as a Board Director for Alliant Energy Corporation, an investor-owned, publicly-traded company. She is also a Board Director for The Trust for Public Land, and a Trustee for Denison University and the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum in Chicago.
Corporate social responsibility and community development initiatives are cornerstone interests for Susan’s business and leadership activities. She champions growth, diversity and change initiatives as an executive leader. Her not-for-profit Board and Trustee leadership roles reflect her passion for education, science and diversity, as well as her personal interests in supporting nature and education for future generations.
Susan graduated from Denison University with a degree in Economics.
