After a successful “Around the World in Shorney” event in March, our office has opened its doors to First Years wishing to start the study abroad process. Brand new this year is Study Abroad 101, a great opportunity for students to get a comprehensive look at the steps necessary to begin the off-campus study process. In this brief, 30-minute informational meeting, student workers from our office offer the prospective travelers information on different types of programs and providers, advice for selecting the right program, as well as help navigating our website to see the list of pre-approved programs. Additionally, students learn about the application process alongside general academic and financial planning tips. At the end of the presentation, there is plenty of time left for questions and students are encouraged to make an official advising appointment with our office to actually begin the process. It is our hope that these Stu dy Abroad 101 meetings will make the process a little less daunting for first-years hoping to get a head start in selecting, planning, and applying for the semester of their lives! Rising sophomores will be required to participate in Study Abroad 101s beginning in the fall to help prepare them for their semester studying away.
