“How Do Language and Community Affect One Another?”

Do the words we use shape the way communities understand themselves in relation to others [other communities or others in their community]? Are there particular features of language(s) that shape this understanding? Is language controlled by those in power or are meanings determined by all language users? What role does non-verbal communication play in language?

All members of the Denison community are welcome. Complimentary coffee and snacks will be served!
