We are excited to announce that mathematics and music performance double-major Jimmy Fennessey ’19 was awarded a grant from the Fulbright Program to participate in the Irish Studies Summer School. He will be studying a wide variety of topics related to Ireland, with a distinct focus on the North. Subjects will include the history, culture, and politics of Ireland and how they relate to conflict. He will have opportunities to travel to Derry, the Antrim Coast, and Omagh. Jimmy also plans to meet with current Northern Irish politicians, police officers, and ex-prisoners to better understand their story. Through this experience, Jimmy hopes to deepen his understanding of the Troubles and the nature of Irish identity in the North. He also wants to develop his abilities to interact and work with people from diverse, international, multicultural backgrounds as he prepares for his study-abroad semester in Amman, Jordan.
