Maybe it comes with being a Denisonian, but four weeks of winter break sounds stale rather than serene. Instead of four weeks of doing nothing, I enjoy using that break for some low-pressure learning. During my time at home this winter, I decided to enroll in online courses offered by the Knowlton Center for Career Exploration. Through a program called OnBoard, Denison students have access to short, low-commitment courses which teach skills useful in the professional world that we may otherwise not acquire through courses at Denison.
After years of tackling projects by google-searching “how to’s” for Excel, over break I decided that gaining proficiency in Excel would be good for my coursework at Denison. The course consisted of short readings, video demonstrations, and practice Excel sheets. From this I was able to produce more organized data tables and charts while also learning to use Excel more efficiently to save time. This course provided useful skills for my classes and added a useful skill to my resume. This is the case for many of the OnBoard courses. Whether you are looking for some background on the fundamentals of Marketing or knowledge on Personal Finance, the OnBoard courses offer a nice finishing touch to the Denison education.
If anyone is looking to bolster their skills and improve their resume, I would highly recommend the OnBoard courses – take advantage of this wonderful resource Denison provides!
