Denison Math Students Volunteer in Newark

Service & Awareness

This semester, students in the math department partnered with alumna Jessica Corum ’04 to create a volunteer tutoring program with Newark High School. Every Thursday, students at Newark High School meet with Denison students to work through assignments, study for tests, and practice things such as factoring. Through this program, Denison majors are able to teach students about topics they enjoy, but even more, they provide valuable mentorship, sharing with the high school students the value of education. After just a few weeks, there has been a noticeable increase in student interest in their education and a determination to tackle the hard problems.
