Recently two Denison math majors, Alexandra Tubbs '20 and Gaby Pleitez-Gomez '20, attended the 20th Annual Nebraska Conference for Undergraduate Women in Mathematics at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. The goal of this two-day conference is to “… arm participants with knowledge, self-confidence and a network of peers to help them become successful mathematicians.” Alex noted that one of her main takeaways was the “…importance of being confident in my work, whether that's in the classroom or in the workplace. I have something important to offer.” The conference had several keynote speakers as well as a number of break-out sessions ranging from tips for graduate school or how to leverage an undergraduate math degree for a successful career in the industry. In particular, our students now better understand that a degree in mathematics provides a wealth of opportunities. Employers are looking for people who can tackle tough questions and problem solve. They are looking for math majors!
