A Note from the Director--Welcome Back

Newsletters

As the new semester begins, please accept my best wishes for what lies ahead. Your dedication to teaching excellence means so much to our students, and the examples you set in your classrooms, labs, and studio spaces remind them of the importance of meaningful learning, engaged teaching, and thoughtful inquiry.

The Center for Learning and Teaching (located in the Atrium level of the Library) provides resources, programming, and support under the broad umbrella of faculty development. A comprehensive catalog of our resources can be found at the CfLT’s website. As your schedule allows, I hope you’ll take the time to the rich resources already curated here (due to the thoughtful diligence of Dr. Frank Hassebrock, the Center’s first Director). Highlights that will mark this year for the Center include:

  • A focus on cultural competency and social inclusion and the bearing these have on our teaching;
  • Dedicated learning communities for first-year and early-career faculty, facilitated by experienced peers;
  • Classroom observations and confidential consultations for interested faculty; and
  • Teaching Matters workshops that explore issues of common interest and provide timely resources, tips, and support.

The Center is for everyone. If you are interested in facilitating a workshop or program, please contact me (kurtz@denison.edu). Most importantly, please know that I’m dedicated to listening to you and learning about the topics on your mind. The CfLT will be an inclusive space where we can have supportive conversations about issues of shared interest. I look forward to the year ahead.

Best wishes for the semester,

Jeff Kurtz
