Dr. Olivia Aguilar has co-authored two chapters in the recently released book, Urban Environmental Education Review. The book explores how environmental education can contribute to urban sustainability, specifically examining how learning opportunities can foster individual and community well-being in cities. Dr. Aguilar contributed to a chapter on community environmental education and a chapter on inclusive environmental education that is summarized in the video here.
Aguilar's scholarship examines issues at the intersection of environment, education, race/ethnicity, and community. Specifically, her work examines how sociocultural learning theories help to account for learning of marginalized groups in environmental and science contexts through community approaches. Her recent endeavors also involve a critical analysis of inclusive practices in the environmental arena.
