Martha Mulligan '96 receives Fulbright Fellowship
Martha Mulligan ‘96, is the department chair and a mathematics teacher at Northside College Preparatory High School in Chicago and an adjunct instructor in the Northwestern School of Education and Social Policy (SESP) Master of Science in Education Program and a former SESP Teacher in Residence.
She also is a recipient of a Fulbright fellowship to study teaching and learning of algebra in Singapore.
The dance, education and mathematics triple major will be assigned to a school in Singapore and will also do course work at a local university.
In an article on the Northwestern SESP website, Mulligan notes, “I applied for the Fulbright to go to Singapore so that I could learn more about the teaching and learning of algebra in Singapore schools,” says Mulligan, noting that Singapore has consistently done very well on the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study, a test given to students in several countries every four years. “I hope to apply what I learn there to augment a summer algebra course at Northside.”
