Join us for the conversation - A record number of home runs were hit in the 2017 season. Major League Baseball asked a special commission to study the increase in home run hitting in recent seasons. We give a brief history of home run hitting in baseball. Then we explore different explanations for the increase in home run hitting such as changes in exit velocities and launch angles, the ball parks, and the composition of the baseball. We summarize the conclusions of the commission report, describe the changes made by MLB, and talk about home run hitting in the current 2018 season.
