The Ronneberg Lecture Series and the Department of Math and Computer Science welcome Rob Flax, Denison Class of 2010. Rob will present&Wondrous Numbers: Finding Artistic Inspiration in Mathematical Puzzles.
Come listen to Rob talk about the Collatz Conjecture. The Collatz conjecture says that the process will eventually reach the number 1, regardless of which positive integer is chosen initially. That smallest i such that ai = 1 is called the total stopping time of n. The conjecture asserts that every n has a well-defined total stopping time. (aka the 3x+1 problem and listen to “Wondrous Numbers,” inspired by the problem.
