Jessica (Qiuyi) Tang ’16 co-authored two academic papers that were published in computer science conferences this fall, both based on her Denison Senior Research work with Dr. Tom Bressoud. The first paper was presented at the 2016 IEEE International Conference on Cluster Computing, Taipei, Taiwan.
The second paper was presented at the 22nd IEEE International Conference on Parallel and Distributed Systems, Wuhan, China. Their work focused on Google’s programming model known as MapReduce which enables Big Data processing on web search data. Jessica and Dr. Bressoud used Denison’s Beowulf cluster, a high-performance parallel computing cluster made from inexpensive personal computer hardware, to conduct textual analysis on the Open Source books from Project Guttenberg. Dr. Bressoud and his students regularly update this cluster to improve its performance as they conduct this cutting-edge research.
