Visiting Filmmakers & Alumni will Preview New Feature Film
The Denison Department of Cinema is pleased to host Family Squid, Inc. from October 20-22.
Family Squid is a Chicago-based production company created by Denison Class of '09 graduates Marc Sloboda, Mike Palzkill, Jay Hurst, and Brian Crush. The four reunited in Chicago after graduation with a shared vision to build a career in film.
Now, almost six years later, Family Squid has grown from a single short film idea into a business that provides services for commercial and creative film work. Their own short films have been official selections in the Chicago International REEL Shorts Festival, Louisville's International Festival of Film, and Dances with Film (Los Angeles).
NOT WELCOME, written and directed by Sloboda, is Family Squid's first feature film. Crush served as the film's producer, Hurst was the production designer, and Palzkill was the director of photography.
The film follows a couple who suspects that their McMansion is haunted. In actuality, the ghost is a 30-year-old failure who has occupied vacant rooms for years without their knowledge. So begins an absurd turf war in this comedy of errors populated by psychics, private investigators, and spirits.
Please join the Department of Cinema for a preview screening of the film with the filmmakers in attendance.
