New Book by Scott Navicky '99
Art history graduate Scott Navicky ‘99 has just published a new book, 3 Essays on Imagereality, in which his main character, Carlos Spencer-Bayard gives free reign to his flights of imagination.
According to Navicky, “Imagereality is everywhere; it is to our era what the invention of photography was to the 19th century. Yet unlike the invention of photography, Imagereality has failed to generate a significant amount of critical discourse. Part of the dilemma is methodological; it is difficult to know exactly how to talk about Imagereality. Should the discussion be learned or lighthearted, art historical or ephemeral?”
His two-day book will launch at Trestle Gallery at 3 pm, May 19. Navicky will read and discuss photography; at the same time the following day, he will focus specifically on Christian Marcaly’s twenty-four video The Clock, a work of art that was hailed in The Guardian as “the masterpiece of our times.”
Navicky also is the author of Humboldt: Or, The Power of Positive Thinking?
