Arabic Workshop Hosted at Denison

The workshop aims at introducing the philosophy of the Integrated Approach and demonstrates its methodology in preparing students for the realities of the Arabic diglossic situation. Our keynote speaker is Dr. Munther Younse, the Director of the Arabic Program at Cornell University and the author of the textbook series Arabiyyat al-Naas (2014), (Part One, Two and Three). The Integrated Approach to Arabic Instruction (2014), Kalila wa Dimna: For Students of Arabic (2013) and The Routledge Introduction to Qur’anic Arabic (2012).

Goals of the workshop

  1. Initiating collaboration opportunities and sharing ideas among faculty members teaching Arabic, especially within the Great Lakes Colleges.
  2. Discussion of current trends in Arabic pedagogy.
  3. Introducing the integrated approach: its philosophy, advantages, implementation and transitioning from other traditional approaches currently used in teaching Arabic in the USA.
  4. Discussing future collaboration and the possibility of designing hybrid courses to enrich students’ learning experiences among participating institutions.
