Sustainability

Each year the Sustainability Committee and the Office of Sustainability do a comprehensive analysis of the state of sustainability at the college. The primary functions of the report are: 1) to inform the campus community of the college's successes and 2) help inform decisions moving forward as the college implements in Campus Sustainability Plan.

In 2013 the report became a Fact Book that highlights key Sustainability Data over time. This format has proven to be more valuable to and informative for the campus community and our alumni.

Every institution of higher education in the United States is routinely reviewed for accreditation by one of the nation’s regional independent accrediting agencies. Accreditation assures the public of the fundamental quality of the institution. It is also a requirement for a college or university to receive federal or state grants or student loans. Denison University was under review in 2009 by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (HLC-NCA).

Sustainability

The Sustainability Tracking and Rating System (STARS) is a tool developed by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education to help colleges and universities assess sustainability on their respective campuses. Denison conducted its first STARS assessment in 2012 and earned a Silver rating. In 2016 the college completed its second assessment, earning a Gold rating.
