Biography

With a passion for music, extensive education in Suzuki piano and an unparalleled depth of experience at Denison, Caryl Palmer has been a teacher in the Denison Music Department since 1987.

Caryl was originally hired to help grow the Suzuki piano program at Denison. She brought a great deal of experience with her, having studied all seven Suzuki piano books with Mary Craig Powell, a prominent teacher at Capital University. Prior to joining Denison, she taught private piano and elementary vocal music in St. Louis, Detroit, and Hilliard, Ohio.

Beyond teaching Suzuki piano, Caryl has a passion for choral music; which she’s enjoyed since her undergraduate years at Oberlin College. She especially loves the beauty of a cappella choirs. Bach B Minor Mass, Verdi and Brahms’ requiems are a few of her favorites.

Caryl has three grown children and five grandchildren. Her hobbies include bird watching, reading and word-find puzzles.
