I lived in the Philippines for 3 years, and in Singapore for 4 years, making some great friends along the way. I have had a truly international experience before even coming to Ohio! I am majoring in Economics at Denison and I have had a blast in my freshman year. I love playing soccer and getting involved with all the campus opportunities that Denison offers.

+ A message from Sasha

Hi everyone!

My name is Sasha Mendez and I am from Lima, Peru.  My majors are economics and communication.  When I first came to Denison my major was international studies but when I took a communication class as a general education requirement I fell in love with it!  I’m currently a rising junior which means I will be graduating in 2014.  Once I’m done with my classes you can find me working at the admissions office as a hosting coordinator or working in H.O.P.E kitchen, a new organization on campus.  Besides being a pre-o staff leader I’m also a Peer International Student Advisor which means I will be available the entire year if you have any questions or need help.

I look forward to meeting all of you!

What's up?!

Yes, I’m Brazilian, and yes, I play soccer, but no, I’ve never played it at Denison; not even just for fun. But I do yoga and I lift weights on M-W-F at 7 AM, wanna join?

I work a lot. I read a lot. I talk a lot. I eat a lot. And I don’t drink… a lot. Movies, plays, running, clubbing… in very small doses.

Here are my Denison bubbles: WDUB, DFS, Dept. of Modern Languages, Writing Center, tutoring, Outlook, CRSB, and Residential Education. Find out what they mean on Denison’s website!

Hit me up if you have any Q’s, I have some A’s!
(And, no, we can’t be Facebook friends until we’re actually friends.)

Giang Thai '13
Pre-O Staff
Majors: Sociology/Anthropology and Economics
Hometown: Hanoi, Vietnam

+ A message from Giang

My name is Giang Thai. Here are some facts about me:
  • I grew up in Hanoi, Vietnam.
  • I major in Economics and minor in Soc/Anth.
  • I’m involved in Asian Culture Club (ACC). If you are interested in our activities and have some ideas, feel free to share them with me!
  • What I like the most about weekends is that I can go to bed at 4 or 5 o’clock in the morning and spend the whole day on sleeping.
  • I don’t like swimming even though I know how to swim. The reason I use to justify my dislike is that after watching “Jaws” and “Back to Eden”, I am afraid that there might be some sharks and crocodiles hiding in the swimming pool and in the sea and waiting to attack me.
  • I believe that walking around campus everyday and working in the library is how I exercise. That’s why my friends usually don’t ask me to work out with them in the gym twice.
  • It’s easy to make me happy: some good food! :)

I love movies and books so much! And I love Friends, I’ve watched every episode of every season. So if you want to hang out and watch a movie, or have a Friends marathon, we can definitely do that!
I will be a Leadership Fellows next year, so if you are interested in leadership, you should definitely apply to be a part of our awesome programs, or even if you are not, join as well, those programs are fun!
I can't wait to see you all! You'll have an amazing experience here in Denison! Welcome to big red!

Liu copy.jpg

Yajun Liu '13
Pre-O Staff
Major: Biology; Chemistry Minor
Hometown: Zhengzhou, China

+ A message from Yajun

Greetings!
My name is Yajun Liu. Unfortunately, I cannot offer you an easier way to pronounce my name. I am from the hometown of martial arts in Henan, China, which does not make me an expert in martial arts at all. Here are some fun facts about me:
  • I am pursuing one of the toughest majors in Denison—biology with chemistry minor, which guaranteed me at least 6 hours per week in lab, with obvious goggle marks under my eyes.
  • As a senior biology major, I am perfectly used to picking off spiders that are hanging off my hair after crawling and venturing the woods.
  • As an international student myself, I am involved in Denison International Student Association (DISA), Asian Cultural Club (ACC), and Global China Connection (GCC), etc.
  • Helping others comes naturally to me, which is why I am working as tutor and teaching assistant on campus.
  • My favorite desserts from the dining halls in Denison are cheesecake and chocolate chip bread pudding.
  • I love all kinds of furry and adorable rodents. I used to have guinea pigs and hamsters as pets. Now my goal is to raise a cute chinchilla.
Now you know some facts about me. I wish to know more about YOU as well.
Please feel free to write emails to me. I look forward to seeing you soon!
