Denison University provides access to a broad range of computing and network services to members of the University community so that they may make productive and innovative use of information technologies. These network services are intended for University-related purposes, including direct and indirect support of the University’s instructional, research and service missions.

This handbook is designed to provide helpful information to all members of the Administrative Staff and to acquaint employees with Denison, its policies, procedures, and benefits and to help employees understand their rights, privileges and obligations.

If you believe a crime or violation has occurred, have witnessed or have evidence of hazing, see suspicious activity on campus, or believe there is someone who is a danger to themselves or others and you would like to report it to Campus Security completely anonymously, please fill out this confidential form.

In the three parts of the Diversity Guide, you will find information about people at Denison who represent some of the diversity in our community. This guide was compiled as part of our on-going efforts to help make Denison a more diverse and welcoming community. The first section includes information about people of color at Denison and some of the organizations that support students, staff, and faculty of color.

We believe providing accurate information, maintaining a supportive community, and enforcing policies and laws to be the most effective method of addressing alcohol and drug abuse. Denison is committed to the health and safety of all students and employees, and to an environment which promotes the academic mission of the University. The federal Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act Amendments of 1989 require that Denison University distribute this Alcohol and Drug policy information to all students, staff, and faculty on an annual basis.

Denison University shall be responsive to all legal requests for electronically stored information (ESI) from any recognized legal authority. The University maintains numerous logs, records, backups and other forms of data that may be requested in a litigation process. The University will not voluntarily provide any such information; data will only be released under the terms of a court ordered disclosure, subpoena or other appropriate request.

Denison University employees and spouses/same-sex domestic partners, who are non-degree seeking students (not admitted through Admissions) are eligible to participate in this program and take course work for credit or audit. Denison University is committed to educating students, faculty and staff in safe practices as they relate to fire safety. Fire drills are conducted in residence halls twice each calendar year in the spring and fall. This report is completed in accordance with the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008 and submitted to the U. S. Department of Education.

The goal of an idling policy at Denison University is to eliminate all unnecessary idling time by vehicles on campus to minimize harmful emissions. Implementing an idling reduction policy on campus is in line with Denison’s goal of reducing green house gas emissions.

Our faculty and staff developed the Denison Learning Guide that encourages students to do 10 things: ask questions, manage their time, follow their heart, be creative, respect others, take risks, maintain their integrity, show courage, take care of themselves, and enjoy it all. At its core, the Guide asks students to pay attention to three dimensions of a Denison education: academics, experiences, and community.

The library accepts unrestricted donations of library materials for review. Items are accepted with the understanding that they will be handled in the best interest of the institution. Once given to the library, donations cannot be returned to the donor. Potential donors should provide in advance a list of materials being offered so that their value to the collection may be reviewed.

Full-time employees are eligible for the medical and dental plans with a contribution from Denison.  The document shows a comparison of the 2012 and 2013 premium rates.

To provide a plan to inform Denison University students who reside in on-campus housing, the College policy governing required notifications within twenty-four (24) hours after the time a student is deemed to be missing. This plan is to comply with the August 14, 2008 Higher Education Opportunity Act, Section 485 (j) by the U.S. Department of Education.

Denison University accepts credit cards as payment for a variety of goods and services. By accepting credit cards, Denison assumes significant risks with respect to protecting cardholder data. The Payment Card Industry (PCI) Security Standards Council has developed a set of financial and information technology standards, called Payment Card Information Data Security Standards (PCI-DSS), to protect credit cardholders' data.

Information Technology Services provides guidelines and restricts the use of P2P applications and protocols, such as BitTorrent, etc. Denison has implemented technical controls which allow us to prioritize traffic based on type so that we never examine the content of the traffic, thereby ensuring individual privacy. However, all community members must respect all applicable copyright laws.
