First-Year Program | Orientation Programs | Sustainability

Denison Sustainable Farming Orientation offers an opportunity to work on projects such as harvesting, preserving (canning, drying, freezing), repairing and building trails, and managing farm animals, and forming bonds and friendships. It allows for up to 18 members of the incoming class and 3 to 5 faculty/staff leaders to practice sustainable farming by living and working on the The Flying J Farm, a sustainable farm located 20 minutes from Denison.

Sustainability

Denison University is committed to the use and purchase of environmentally and socially responsible materials and products. People authorized to make purchases on behalf of the college are expected to support our commitment to environmental responsibility through the guidelines and procedures contained in this Sustainable Purchasing Policy.

Sustainability

Denison is committed to reducing its impact on the environment. To that end, Denison operates an extensive campus recycling program to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills and to utilize resources in a more responsible manner.  We recognize, however, that recycling is only one part of the issue. To move toward a more sustainable campus, Denison also must strive to reduce its consumption and waste in all aspects of campus operations.

Sustainability

Denison University strives to become an exemplary steward of our natural world and a leader in environmental, economic and social sustainability. We believe that this tripartate approach to sustainable practices will support the well being of the entire college. To further this goal, Denison will incorporate sustainable practices into its daily operations, as well as educate all members of the Denison community on the interdependence of human welfare and the state of the planet.

Sustainability

Sustainability-focused courses at Denison University explore relationships between humans and the environment. Working from a variety of perspectives, these courses explore and analyze at least two types of systems (i.e. cultural, social, economic, political, and/or ecological) and their ability to meet the needs of future generations. These courses purposefully connect actions with outcomes in their relation to environmental issues.
