Denison University provides access to a broad range of computing and network services to members of the University community so that they may make productive and innovative use of information technologies. These network services are intended for University-related purposes, including direct and indirect support of the University’s instructional, research and service missions.

Life After Denison

We understand that unexpected academic obligations, work commitments, and illnesses can affect your schedule. However, please advise the Center for Career Exploration of any change as early as possible, as there is a high demand for appointments. Your cancellation will allow us to offer your time slot to another student. Be sure to check your schedule carefully in order to avoid multiple appointment cancellations.

Library

The Denison University Archives collects materials in accordance with the Archives Collection Policy. Records include paper documents, photographs, audiotapes, films, videotapes, scrapbooks, and objects that provide information about the differing aspects of Denison University campus life.

Denison's Acceptable Use Policy forbids all users of Denison's computing resources from committing “violations of copyright/civil law, including the unauthorized reproduction and use of copyrighted images and text” as well as forbidding “software theft or piracy, data theft, or any other action which violates the intellectual property rights of others”.

Health & Wellness

We believe providing accurate information, maintaining a supportive community, and enforcing policies and laws to be the most effective method of addressing alcohol and drug abuse. Denison is committed to the health and safety of all students and employees, and to an environment which promotes the academic mission of the University. The federal Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act Amendments of 1989 require that Denison University distribute this Alcohol and Drug policy information to all students, staff, and faculty on an annual basis.

Admissions & Financial Aid | Student Finances

Students who are currently enrolled and are completing the FAFSA will be asked: “Have you been convicted for the possession or sale of illegal drugs for an offense that occurred while you were receiving federal student aid?” Students who answer “Yes” will be asked an additional series of questions to determine if the conviction affects their eligibility for federal student aid.

Denison University shall be responsive to all legal requests for electronically stored information (ESI) from any recognized legal authority. The University maintains numerous logs, records, backups and other forms of data that may be requested in a litigation process. The University will not voluntarily provide any such information; data will only be released under the terms of a court ordered disclosure, subpoena or other appropriate request.

The goal of an idling policy at Denison University is to eliminate all unnecessary idling time by vehicles on campus to minimize harmful emissions. Implementing an idling reduction policy on campus is in line with Denison’s goal of reducing green house gas emissions.

Education

Denison University accepts credit cards as payment for a variety of goods and services. By accepting credit cards, Denison assumes significant risks with respect to protecting cardholder data. The Payment Card Industry (PCI) Security Standards Council has developed a set of financial and information technology standards, called Payment Card Information Data Security Standards (PCI-DSS), to protect credit cardholders' data.

Information Technology Services provides guidelines and restricts the use of P2P applications and protocols, such as BitTorrent, etc. Denison has implemented technical controls which allow us to prioritize traffic based on type so that we never examine the content of the traffic, thereby ensuring individual privacy. However, all community members must respect all applicable copyright laws.

Admissions & Financial Aid | Student Finances

To be eligible to receive federal, state and institutional financial aid and to continue to receive that aid a student must maintain satisfactory academic progress toward the completion of his/her degree by maintaining a cumulative 2.0 GPA in addition to earning the required number of hours after each semester of attendance.

Housing

As a four-year residential campus, Denison University is committed to the learning process that takes place both inside and outside the classroom. Staff members in the Office of Residential Education and Housing provide students with a reasonably safe, comfortable, and well-maintained living space, in an academically conducive environment.  Residential education and housing policies and regulations are established with that in mind.

Denison University provides online resources to students, faculty and staff for many purposes ranging from education and research to communications and entertainment. The costs associated with operating a large volume network are part of the general operating expenses. By using online resources wisely and respectfully, we can contain costs and provide more secure services for the Denison community.

Admissions & Financial Aid

The quality of your academic performance, the rigor of courses selected and your grade-point average are the most important factors considered by the Admissions Committee. Submission of the results of the SAT I or the ACT is optional. Students who elect not to submit either an ACT or SAT are strongly encouraged to interview either on campus or with an area alumni representative. SAT II Subject Tests are also not required although you may provide these scores as additional information in support of your application for admission.

Student Conduct | Title IX

Title IX is a law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in any federally funded education program. Sexual misconduct is prohibited under this law. The responsibilities in this policy are legal requirements for the College under the Title IX legislation of 1972 which requires among other things that Colleges and universities investigate and act on knowledge of sexual assault—including educating and training campus personnel about their respective roles and responsibilities for reporting incidents.
