Philosophy Coffee: ‘What is the Relationship Between Emotion and Reason?’

The Department of Philosophy presents a Philosophy Coffee, titled “What is the Relationship Between Emotion and Reason?”

What is the Relationship Between Emotion and Reason? In much of the history of philosophy, it has been thought that one ought to overcome one’s emotions, in order to achieve rational thinking. If one embraces emotions, they are often thought to reject rationality as a whole. Is this the proper relationship between emotions and rationality? If this view is to be challenged, ought we consider emotional states in our reasoning, or is there a kind of reasoning wholly alternative to rationality? Complimentary coffee and snacks will be served!

The coffee will take place after the Philosophy Department awards ceremony.
