The Tuesday Faculty Lunch Series welcomes HyeKyung Lee, associate professor of music, presenting: “Toy…………… toy piano II.”
Abstract: No one had given much attention to the toy piano until John Cage wrote a serious piece for solo toy piano in 1948, a suite for toy piano, the first classical piece written for the instrument. Since then other composers used the toy piano for its unique innocent and ghostly sound color as in Crumb’s “Ancient Voices of Children.” With the increasing interest in searching for new sounds, the toy piano now became a “hip” instrument. This would be the continuous talk of the first session I did in Feb. 2012. I will (re)introduce the toy piano and perform my own compositions.
