The Tuesday Lunch Series welcomes Tom Bressoud, associate professor of computer science and chair, presenting "Cloud Computing: Opportunities and Challenges.” In the past handful of years, Cloud Computing has become the next "Big Thing". But Cloud Computing means different things to different constituencies, from IT professionals to Financial Officers to Computer Scientists to ordinary users. And there is more than a little marketing hype that clouds the subject even further (pun intended). The goal of this talk is threefold -- first, we want to fill in the gaps and unify the perspectives of exactly what constitutes cloud computing. Second, we want to sort through the hype and see what opportunities are presented by Cloud Computing. And third, we will look, from a computer science perspective, at the challenges and interesting problems that arise from this new paradigm of computing. Open to emeriti faculty, faculty and staff.
