    Full Description: The Laura C. Harris Symposium welcomes author Ruth Nichole Brown presenting "The Creative Potential of Black Girlhood: A Performance Lecture." Brown is assistant professor of Gender and Women’s Studies & Educational Policy Studies at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Her research documents, analyzes, and interrogates Black girls’ lived experiences as it intersects with cultural constructions of Black girlhood. Her first book, Black Girlhood Celebration: Toward A Hip Hop Feminist Pedagogy counters the invisibility of Black girls and the marginalization of Black girlhood in academic literature.

    Full Description: The Laura C. Harris Symposium welcomes Celia Williamson and James Marsh presenting a lecture about human trafficking and prostitution. Williamson organizes each year the largest scholarly anti-trafficking conference in Toledo called The International Human Trafficking, Prostitution and Sex Work Conference. She also is the founder of Second Chance, the first anti-trafficking organization in Ohio. Marsh is partner at Marsh Law Firm, which represents victims of sex abuse in colleges, churches, and government and military institutions; online sexual exploitation; child pornography, and child trafficking. He is currently involved in a landmark civil rights action to stop a new federal law from undermining pending federal investigations of a university’s mishandling of a sexual assault case on campus.
